Release highlights

Improvements and bug fixes introduced by Oracle for MySQL 8.0.29 and included in Percona Server for MySQL are the following:

  • The Performance Schema tracks if a query was processed on the PRIMARY engine, InnoDB, or a SECONDARY engine, HeatWave. An EXECUTION_ENGINE column, which indicates the engine used, was added to the Performance Schema statement event tables and the sys.processlist and the sys.x$processlist views.

  • Added support for the IF NOT EXISTS option for the CREATE FUNCTION, CREATE PROCEDURE, and CREATE TRIGGER statements.

  • Added support for ALTER TABLE … DROP COLUMN ALGORITHM=INSTANT.

  • An anonymous user with the PROCESS privilege was unable to select processlist table rows.

Note

Percona Server for MySQL has changed the default for supported DDL column operations to ALGORITHM=INPLACE. This fixes the corruption issue with the INSTANT ADD/DROP COLUMNS (find more details in PS-8292.)

In MySQL 8.0.29, the default setting for supported DDL operations is ALGORITHM=INSTANT. You can explicitly specify ALGORITHM=INSTANT in DDL column operations.

Improvements

  • PS-8258: Percona Server for MySQL can be built on the MacOS with RocksDB enabled.

Bugs fixed

  • PS-8291: An unexpected MySQL 8.0.29 server exit when executing ALTER TABLE … DROP COLUMN ALGORITHM=INSTANT. (Upstream #107613)

  • PS-8292: MySQL 8.0.29 failed to perform crash recovery.

  • PS-8303: A MySQL 8.0.29 server exit on ALTER TABLE created an assertion failure: dict0mem.h:2498:pos < n_def.

  • PS-8116: Executing ALTER TABLE IMPORT TABLESPACE with a different data directory failed. (Thanks to Sami Ahlroos for reporting this issue)

  • PS-8273: A MyRocks exit when inserting into a table with a unique key and TTL setting.

Packaging notes

Debian 9 is no longer supported.
